Anghami - statistics and facts

Anghami, the Spotify of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), was the region's first alternative to music piracy. It was MENA’s first legal music streaming platform, allowing users in MENA, Europe, and the U.S. to stream and download millions of Arabic and international songs and podcasts. The headquarters of Anghami is in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates after it relocated in 2021. The service was initially launched in November 2012 in Beirut, Lebanon by co-founders Elie Habib and Eddy Maroun. It currently has offices in Beirut, Dubai, Cairo, and Riyadh. By the end of 2020, Anghami’s largest share of users was in Egypt. Anghami is a freemium service that allows users to listen to music for free, with advertisements monetizing the service. Paid users to Anghami Plus have access to a variety of services, including song downloads, high audio quality, lyrics viewing, and the removal of advertisements. In 2020, Anghami had the majority of paying subscribers for music streaming services in MENA compared to other platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. The service is accessible through a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, the web, and other car and home audio devices.

Anghami partnerships and labels

To give customers legal access to a wide collection of copyrighted music, Anghami has licensing arrangements with major international and Arabic music labels, as well as hundreds of independent labels and distributors. The firm plans to spend almost half of its budget for the year 2022 on growth marketing. In February 2022, Anghami announced signing an exclusive deal with its number one listened-to Arab singer and megastar Amr Diab. The Egyptian singer who, according to Anghami, is the most streamed Arab singer across the world, stunned fans when he abruptly removed tunes and music videos from his official YouTube account. There are almost a dozen albums on the list, as well as several popular music videos and viral hits. The rival platform, Spotify, has been hit particularly hard by the content shift, with barely a few songs and older Diab albums remaining on its platform.

Anghami public listing and key figures

Early in 2022, the firm, which has its headquarters at Abu Dhabi Global Market, was officially listed on New York’s National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) stock exchange. Anghami was the first Arab technology business to be listed on the NASDAQ, and the first Arab company to be listed on this market in more than 25 years, according to the firm. MENA's top music streaming platform and service recently announced the completion of its merger with Vistas Media Acquisition Company, with Anghami shareholders retaining 45 percent of its equity. On February 4, 2022, Anghami's common ordinary shares and warrants began trading on NASDAQ in the United States. Middle East Venture Partners (MEVP), MBC Group, Saudi Telecom Mobily, and UAE Telecom Du, as well as SHUAA Capital, Samena Capital (UAE), Megladon (Saudi Arabia), Endeavor (USA), and Sal&Co (USA), are among the top venture capital firms and significant shareholders of Anghami.
