Video streaming in Poland
SVOD – subscription video-on-demand – makes up a significant portion of video streaming. This segment has seen a massive increase in the past few years. VOD services are becoming more popular among all audiences, mainly adults below 40 years old. Moreover, they are used habitually – even a few times a day – especially among TV users. Needless to say, many viewers are prone to the binge-watching phenomenon. Among SVOD services, Netflix is the most expensive but, at the same time, the most used and highly rated by viewers. As a result, the platform was estimated to generate a revenue of approximately 63 million U.S. dollars thanks to its SVOD services in Poland in the fourth quarter of 2021. Alongside Netflix, however, there is a well-established selection of Polish services like Ipla, Player, or Vod.pl.Video streaming also encompasses video games. Many internet users enjoy watching game streams, but especially in the context of organized competitive gaming. The e-sports market is thriving in Poland, both in terms of revenue and viewership. E-sports fans are more interested in streaming than casual gamers – they especially prefer to watch competitive and professional gameplays on YouTube streaming.
Music streaming in Poland
Another sector of streaming is music. As with video, online music subscription services like Spotify and Tidal have skyrocketed in recent years. Streaming on-demand is the most common method for users to access music online. The Statista Digital Market Outlook estimates that music streaming services will accumulate over five million users in Poland by 2026; Spotify is the most downloaded music streaming app. The most popular songs can reach around 100 thousand daily Spotify plays in Poland.Podcasts are another division of audio streaming that is becoming fashionable in Poland. Users are primarily aged up to 24 years old, who use smartphones or laptops to access podcasts. Listening habits are different than they are for music – a podcast can be an hour-long and requires more focus than music, which is probably why most podcast listeners only partake in the activity a few times per week.
The growth of online streaming can be seen across all video and audio domains. This growth is expected to continue in the coming years. Users love comfort and convenience, and producers from various media branches are eager to explore the new possibilities. Thus, streaming has a secure future in multiple media industries in Poland.
