In addition to the first-person shooter series Battlefield and the puzzle game Candy Crush, the sandbox game Minecraft also came from Swedish producers. The last one developed by Mojang was sold with 176 million copies in May 2019 and had 91 active players as of October 2018, in both cases worldwide. Mojang is also the game developer with the second most generated revenue in Sweden, reaching more than three billion Swedish kronor in 2018. Other famous and successful video games publishers in the country include Paradox Interactive, Starbreeze, and Embracer Group, before September 2019 known as THQ Nordic.

According to a survey conducted by NORDICOM, the share of individuals playing video games daily in Sweden amounted to 29 percent of respondents in 2018. The most common age group among gaming users was 9 to 14 years – 72 percent of them stated to have used this medium on a daily basis. In comparison, only 15 percent of 65 to 79-year-old Swedes played video games that year. Playing online is becoming increasingly popular in Sweden. Both men and women were interested in online games. 50 percent of male respondents and 56 of women indicated they played daily.
