Pork production

The UK slaughtered 10.9 million clean pigs as of 2020. Only a small amount of total pork demand in the United Kingdom is covered by the slaughter of organic pigs. A total of almost 31,000 slaughtered animals qualified for the UK's organic label. In 2020, the value of the pig meat production in the UK amounted to 1.44 billion British pounds. Compared to the early 2000s, the industry has almost doubled the value of its production. National pork production is supplemented by imports of about 384,000 tons of pork annually. If pork exports are deducted, the UK remains a net importer of pork.

Pork retail

The thousands of tons of pig meat that are produced are offered to the consumer in a variety of fresh and frozen pork products. Recently, customers are purchasing an increased amount of shoulder roasting joints, while other products, such as leg roasting joints and loin roasting are falling out of favor. In retail, consumers are spending about 980 million British pounds on these pork products. Average pig meat prices come to 1.61 pounds per kilogram of deadweight in 2020, up from 1.49 pounds per kilogram in the previous year.
