Acer’s business segments

Acer’s product and service offering includes notebook PCs (personal computers), desktop PCs, monitors, projectors, peripherals, gaming and eSports platforms, and servers, in addition to a variety of cloud, AI (artificial intelligence), and smart city solutions. Acer’s largest business segment is the PC segment, with notebook PC sales accounting for over 60 percent of revenues generated by the company. On a regional level, the majority of Acer's revenue is generated across the Asia Pacific region in countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mainland China.

PC market competitors

In 2021, the market leader in the global PC market was Lenovo with a market share of around 25 percent. HP Inc. was a close second with a 22 percent share, while Acer sat down in fifth place with a share of just over seven percent – below the likes of Dell and Apple although just above fellow Taiwanese vendor Asus. When looking at the Chromebook market, Acer competes once more with the above vendors, excluding Apple, and recorded the largest market share in the last quarter of 2021.

In addition to the PC and computer peripherals markets where the company will continue to innovate, Acer has expressed a desire to explore new business possibilities including smart gadgets, smart cities, air quality improvement solutions, medical AI, and other cloud application solutions.
