Adobe Inc. - Statistics & Facts

The U.S. firm Adobe Inc. is one of the largest software companies in the world. Best known for the file format PDF and the graphics editing solution Photoshop, the company provides a diverse line of products and services across three segments: Digital Media, Digital Experience, and Publishing and Advertising.

Adobe’s main business

Digital Media is Adobe’s most prominent business segment, which focuses on services and solutions that enable content creation, publication, and promotion. Digital Experience provides a cloud platform that allows businesses to manage customer experience better. The Publishing and Advertising segment includes the company’s diverse range of legacy products and services, such as web conferencing applications and eLearning solutions, on top of advertising and publishing offerings.

Transition to a cloud-based business model

In the 2021 fiscal year, Adobe saw record-setting net sales of over 15 billion U.S. dollars. Over the years, the company has been transitioning from on-premises to a subscription-based business model. Currently, their most significant products are cloud computing offerings such as Creative Cloud – which includes products like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator – and Document Cloud, containing the PDF file manager, Adobe Acrobat. At the same time, several acquisitions over the past years, in particular that of the online marketing and web analytics firm Omniture, led Adobe to also venture into the area of digital marketing. The Adobe Market Cloud is now one of the most popular marketing automation solutions, second only to Hubspot.

Adobe’s popularity makes it a target for cyber exploitation

Due to the prevalent usage of Adobe’s products, adobe.com is one of the most popular websites by referring subnets, ranking with over 200 thousand referring subnets on the Majestic Million. Unfortunately, due to its popularity, Adobe flash has been widely exploited for its security flaws and bugs with malware. Adobe Flash and PDF are some of the most exploited applications in the world. Adobe stopped supporting and updating Flash in 2020, followed by a content block from January 12, 2021. Internet users have raised concerns over years of content stored as Flash data being lost. This has driven the use of alternatives in open-source for flash players such as Lightspark or Gnash.
