ICT sector in Canada

Canada’s ICT sector generated annual revenues of 230 billion Canadian dollars in 2020, while the share of software and computer services’ contribution to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) reached approximately 48 percent that year. Between 2019 and 2020, Canada’s ICT spending grew by 2.4 percent, while the overall economy experienced a decline of 5.2 percent.

The ICT sector is also a major provider of employment in Canada, recording a total number of more than 960 thousand jobs in 2020. Many of these jobs have emanated from the professional, scientific, and technical services industry – which account for almost 40 percent of jobs in 2020. Notably, number of women working in Canada’s ICT sector is continuously rising, amounting to almost 500 thousand in 2021.
