Grains and cereals market in Argentina - Statistics & Facts
That is the case of soybeans exported from Argentina. The South American country is the third largest exporter of this oilseed in the world. The area of Argentinian land devoted to soybean harvesting is expected to continuously increase in the present decade. Besides being one of the main global producers of soybean, Argentina produces over seven million tons of soybean oil per year, which makes it the third largest producer of this edible oil in the world.
Wheat is also one of the main commodities exported by Argentina. This cereal accounted for nearly 13 million metric tons of shipments sent abroad in the marketing year 2017/2018. When it comes to the wheat and flour segment, Argentina qualifies as the sixth largest exporting country around the globe. Moreover, the country's harvested area of wheat is set to exceed six million hectares by 2025.
Apart from soybeans and wheat, Argentina is the third largest exporter of corn, behind the U.S. and Brazil. Domestic corn consumption in Argentina has soared in the past few years, with estimates surpassing the 15 million ton mark in 2019. Similarly, corn production is also expected to increase in the following years. Finally, the barley market in Argentina is also relevant, as it is the leading South American country not only among the major producers worldwide, but also among the largest exporters of the cereal. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that barley consumption in Argentina has been steadily increasing since 2016, after a few years of downward demand.
