Mobile internet user experience
Regarding smartphones, 94 percent of the mobile operating system market share was held by Android, and five percent by iOS. The most popular mobile browser was Google Chrome. The popularity of mobile internet increased. The percentage of people connecting to the network via mobile devices is higher than the rate of people using PCs for this purpose. Mobile phones or smartphones accounted for more than 60 percent of internet usage, while over two percent of people connected to the internet via a tablet.While generic products (apps) are still at the forefront of the most common online activities on smartphones, more than 70 percent of all smartphone users indicated web browsing, emailing, social networking, or instant messaging. The significant increase in the percentage of people using online banking and mobile gaming is especially noteworthy.
For several years, data transmission in mobile networks has been the most dynamically developing service. For example, 5082 petabytes (PB) of data were transmitted through mobile telephony in 2020, almost 41 percent more than in the previous year.
Mobile internet providers and network performance
At the end of 2020, Poland had 17.2 million users of internet access services, including nine million mobile internet subscribers. The number of mobile internet subscribers increased by over seven percent compared to 2019. In 2020, Poland's mobile internet penetration rate reached 195.3 percent. Dedicated mobile access via modems, cards, and keys were used by 23.5 percent of the population.The revenue of the mobile telephony services amounted to more than 12 billion zloty, while the value of the entire internet access industry was 8.2 billion zlotych in 2020. The market share of operators in the mobile access sector did not change significantly compared to 2020. The leader was still Orange Polska, which held the fourth part of the market. Orange also proved to be the best operator in two categories: average download and upload speed. On the other hand, T-Mobile recorded the lowest mobile ping value.
The European Commission has obliged all EU member states to have wide coverage of the 5G technology network by 2025. According to the Commission's guidelines, by 2020, the 5G network will be available commercially for at least one large city in each member state. In Poland, Łódź would be the first city to operate in the 5G network.
