Apple product launch event - March 2022 - statistics & facts

In an average year, Apple holds three to four events: a spring event in March or April, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, a September event, and sometimes an event in the autumn in October or November. The next Apple event is scheduled to take place on 8th March 2022, entitled “Peek performance”, and will once again be a digital-only gathering at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California. Rumors suggest that the event will feature announcements on the next-generation version of the iPhone SE, a revamped iPad Air, and at least one Mac with an Apple silicon chip, which could be the Mac mini, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, or both.

iPhone SE 2022

The 2022 version of the iPhone SE, Apple’s budget phone, is expected to feature two upgrades compared to the previous model: 5G connectivity that will help to bring in line with similar cheaper models from other brands, as well as the addition of Apple’s A15 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 13 range. The iPhone SE 2022, or iPhone SE3, is likely to continue to offer a Touch ID home button and maintain the same design as previously observed.

iPad Air

Rumors have also been circulated that suggest that Apple could announce details of an update to the iPad Air range. The fifth-generation iPad Air could also feature 5G connectivity along with the faster A15 Bionic chip. Some analysts have also highlighted that Apple could make improvements to the tablet's FaceTime camera, particularly one that supports Center Stage – the feature that keeps the user in the frame even as they move around the room.

Mac mini and MacBook Pro

The March 2022 event could see Apple reveal a high-end version of the Mac mini, featuring additional ports and a more powerful Apple silicon chip. The new Mac mini would see Apple replace the current range that includes Intel chips for its own M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. It has also been suggested that Apple is set to announce details of a refreshed version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro that will be equipped with an updated M2 chip.

Apple’s AR/VR headset

Many are tracking the development of Apple’s AR/VR headset that is expected to be revealed this year, although it is unlikely to be announced at the March 2022 event. Instead, it is more likely that any details on this front could come at the WWDC event in June or an event later in 2022. With the release of an AR/VR device, Apple has ambitions to compete with the Oculus Quest 2 (Meta) and the PSVR 2 (Sony PlayStation).
