Smart device popularity
The revenue of the smart home market is expected to reach 2.85 million U.S. dollars by 2026, implying its increasing popularity. In 2020, Russians owned approximately four million smart home assistants, with roughly two thirds of users being between 25 and 44 years of age.In addition to smart homes, consumers also showed increasing interest in other devices with smart features, such as smart TVs or smart speakers. The smart TV is the most popular device among smart entertainment gadgets to date in the region; however, the sales growth rate is expected to drop gradually over the coming years. As for portable speakers, JBL was the top-sold brand by the first quarter of 2020.
Wearables and computing devices
In a global context, the user penetration rate of wearable devices in Russia has so far been lower, compared to other countries. Furthermore, the projected number of users in this market is not expected to grow significantly in the future. Xiaomi was by far the most popular brand of wearables among Russians, specifically for smartwatches and fitness trackers. Apart from these functions, wearable devices were often used for POS payments too.Despite the increasing tablet and personal computer user share in Russia, market revenue has gradually declined since 2016. As of 2021, more than one third of the population owned a tablet, with Samsung being the most popular brand choice. When it comes to laptops, Asus and Acer were the market leaders, constituting a combined share of over 50 percent of owned portable computers.
