Small appliances include small kitchen appliances, such as the ones used on counter-tops, as well as other small appliances used in the home, such as for personal care. Major appliances, also known as large appliances or white goods (seeing as it used to be the standard color for them), are comprised of larger machines, like refrigerators or modern gas stoves.

Consumer behavior

Although clothing and shoes proved to be the most popular products, around 50 percent of Italians responding to a survey conducted in 2021 stated they were interested in household appliances. Conversely, while a low price is of particular importance to one in two people when purchasing clothing and shoes, when it comes to household appliances, that figure changes to just one in four. Small household appliances are particularly popular: in any given month in 2021, more than 35 percent of Italians were planning to purchase a product in that category. With Christmas around the corner, purchase plans reached the highest percentage in December, when a little over 45 percent of Italians stated they planned to purchase a small household appliance in the following three months.

Smart Homes

With its use of connected devices to perform and automate actions and tasks in the home, setting up what is known as Smart Home is a trend that appears to have come to stay. In Italy, the Smart Home market value amounted to 505 million euros in 2020. The smart appliances segment alone is forecast to generate over 575 million euros in revenue by 2025.
