Single-Cup coffee market

Keurig Green Mountain products formerly dominated the single-cup coffee market in the United States, previously with sales more than 500 million dollars more than other single-cup coffee competitors and a 4.4 percent share of the global coffee retail market. The company has sold as many as 13 billion single-serve coffee packs in a year, amounting to net sales of about 4.52 billion U.S. dollars.

Convenience over cost

In comparison to traditional ground coffee, Keurig’s single-serve cup packs are definitely more expensive. In 2015, K-Cups were estimated to cost, on average, 0.33 U.S. dollars per single-serve cup. But 40 percent of U.S. consumers value the convenience and quality of the special coffee brewing system over the price.

Dr Pepper Snapple acquisition

In July of 2018, Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. acquired the soft drink company Dr Pepper Snapple Group for 18.7 billion U.S. dollars and was renamed Keurig Dr Pepper. The soft drinks produced by Dr Pepper are now part of the flavored soft drinks business unit within the larger conglomerate. Keurig Dr Pepper was ranked among the leading beverage companies worldwide in 2020 and had sales amounting to about 11.6 billion U.S. dollars.
