Founded in 1909, the L'Oréal Group has become the largest cosmetics and beauty company in the world. In 2021, L'Oréal was the leading personal care brand in the world, with a brand value that amounted to 38.3 billion U.S. dollars. Globally employing more than 85,000 people in 2021, L'Oréal's consolidated sales generated over 32 million euros that year. The company's cosmetic branch is primarily focused on skin care, hair care, make-up, hair colorants, and perfumes, with the latter generating almost 11 percent of L'Oréal's global cosmetic sales in 2021.

The leader of the global cosmetics market

Headquartered in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine, the French company currently owns more than 30 brands and registered over 500 patents in 2021 alone. Among its brands, L’Oréal Paris is the most successful, followed by Lancôme and Garnier. In the year 2021, L'Oréal's market share in Europe was estimated to amount to 20 percent, and consolidated sales in that region reached a value of over ten billion euros. However, L’Oréal’s fame is not limited to Europe: some of its brands are among the most chosen health & beauty brands worldwide, as well as the most purchased by consumers in the United States.

A “must” for younger generations

L'Oréal has become a well-known name even among the youngest consumers, despite them having only recently started approaching the world of cosmetics and beauty. As of July 2021, L'Oréal and some of its subsidiaries, such as CeraVe and Kiehl’s, were listed in a ranking of the most followed skincare brands on the social network TikTok. According to a recent survey, CeraVe also ranked second as the most purchased facial care brand among Generation Z in the United States. In the same year, the acne treatment brand experienced a sales growth of around 96 percent, serving as proof of its increasing popularity.
