The number of Disney+ subscribers reached a new high of 152.1 million in the third quarter of 2022. Walt Disney's combined direct-to-consumer subscriber count, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, amounted to around 221.1 million, surpassing its competitor Netflix in terms for subscriptions.
Disney Plus keeps adding subscribers
The Walt Disney Company launched its highly anticipated streaming service in November 2019. Less than two years later, Disney+ reached a significant milestone by amassing 100 million subscribers worldwide – which is even more impressive considering that the company had initially set a goal of 60 to 90 million users by 2024. By comparison, it took SVOD market leader Netflix roughly a decade to reach the 100-million-mark despite having navigated a much less competitive market then. And while Disney+ has grown its user base consistently, Netflix reported subscriber losses in its first two quarters of 2022.

What makes Disney+ so appealing to audiences is not just its repertoire of animated classics but also the vast range of content from Disney’s various subsidiaries. The House of Mouse has acquired Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Pixar, and Marvel Entertainment over the last few years, setting it up for success with viewers of all ages. In 2021, for example, “The Mandalorian” and “WandaVision,” available exclusively on Disney+, were among the five most popular original streaming series in the United States and the United Kingdom alike.
According to recent industry measurements, Google Play users in the United States generated more than 5.8 million downloads of video-sharing platform TikTok during the second quarter of 2022. TikTok, which is the international version of Chinese app Douyin, experienced a spectacular growth in popularity in recent years, reaching the peak of 315 million downloads in the first quarter of 2020.
Markets with the highest growing TikTok audience
At the beginning of 2022, Peru was the country with the highest monthly growth of TikTok downloads in the Apple App Store, while Ireland reported a 135 percent month-over-month growth in TikTok downloads on the Google Play Store. Canada was also among the markets that saw a considerable growth in TikTok downloads, as between 2018 and 2020 usage of the popular social video app increased to interest approximately nine percent of the country's digital population.
Leading markets by TikTok revenue
TikTok, which reached one billion active users at the end of September 2021, ranks among the most popular social media social media platforms worldwide. Generally, retail electricity prices in the country have risen over the last decade. This trend is likely to continue as natural gas prices will likely also increase, raising electricity rates. As the natural gas supply is exposed to international markets that pay a higher rate, U.S. prices are also expected to rise despite a decrease in recent years that came as a result of the hydraulic fracturing boom.
